What is HGH?
Human growth hormone (HGH), generic name Somatropin, is a 191-amino-acid single-chain polypeptide hormone normally produced by the anterior pituitary. The recombinant form used in research is structurally identical to the endogenous molecule.
It is the reference molecule for the entire growth-hormone secretagogue category — every peptide in the GHRH (CJC, Tesamorelin, Sermorelin) and GHRP (Ipamorelin, Hexarelin) families is studied for its ability to elevate endogenous HGH.
Mechanism of action
HGH binds the growth hormone receptor (GHR), a class-I cytokine receptor expressed widely but most densely on hepatocytes. Receptor dimerization activates JAK2 and downstream STAT5 signaling, which transcribes IGF-1.
Hepatic IGF-1 mediates most of HGH's anabolic effects on muscle, bone, and connective tissue. Direct GHR signaling in adipose tissue is also responsible for HGH's lipolytic profile.
